Shannon Shakes was primarily a Youth Music Event sponsored by Westmeath Community Development via the Athlone Drugs Awareness Group. The events aim was to create a platform for young bands to perform on stage with the correct Sound Equipment and Lighting thus gaining the full Rock & Roll experience. This event saw some of the bands perform in public for the first time. This section of Shannon shakes concluded with two well known established bands form Athlone, Seesaw Swings and The Good the Bad and the Funky. To enhance the event Workshops were organised by the Gateway Youth Project to precede the Music in the following:
• Art Scope provided Workshops in Percussion and Circus Skills
• Bronte Stage School provided Workshops in Hip Hop Dance.
Outdoor Broadcast was provided by Athlone Community Radio while an excellent Fire Show was put on by Tonnta’s Fire Breathers.
