This week Cllr. Frankie Keena expressed a sincere thank you to everyone who played and provided sponsorship at the recently held Athlone Drug Awareness Golf Classic in Glasson. The response from the public to this fundraiser was fantastic and it is much appreciated, he said. The net taking for the day was €4,800 which is an amazing amount of money to raise in these present times, he added. The public can be assured to know that all this money will be spent on initiatives to promote drug awareness and supporting our youth.
This success is really down to our hosts Tom & Breda Reid from Glasson Golf Hotel & Country Club and the support and help from the members of this magnificent Golf Club who voluntary gave of their time on the day to make sure that everything went well.
I want to extend a special thanks to Captain, Tommy McArdle, Lady Captain Kathleen McGann and Fidelma Reid for their courtesy, advice and support in organising this event, and also to my fellow committee members Michael Downes & Cllr. James Henson, said Cllr. Keena.
